Job Title: Head of Architecture & Development Reports to: IT Director Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Architecture & Development to lead and shape our technology landscape. This pivotal role requires a strategic thinker who can understand and navigate our organization’s ecosystem, drive architectural maturity, and lead our Development team in delivering robust solutions. You will be responsible for crafting and implementing a multi-year technology roadmap that balances short-term needs with long-term objectives, ensuring that our technology becomes a source of strategic competitive advantage. Key Responsibilities: Architectural Leadership: Establish and maintain a comprehensive record of the organization’s architecture, including documenting the current “As-Is” state and developing a forward-looking “To-Be” technology roadmap. Champion the use of architectural frameworks within the IT & Digital (IT&D) team, maturing the collective understanding and application of architecture across the organization. Represent Architecture in major projects, advising on system appropriateness, overseeing implementations, and ensuring alignment with architectural principles. Roadmap Development & Implementation: Shape and implement a pragmatic and adaptable multi-year technology roadmap, covering applications, infrastructure, data, and technology, to enhance our competitive positioning. Ensure the roadmap is commercially sound, technically feasible, and aligned with organizational risk appetite, while balancing short-term priorities with long-term goals. Utilize both formal governance mechanisms and informal influencing strategies to ensure the roadmap is effectively communicated, understood, and adopted across the organization. Team Leadership & Management: Lead, motivate, and mentor a small team, ensuring they are aligned with the strategic objectives and have the resources they need to be effective. Manage the team’s workload, prioritizing tasks and monitoring progress to ensure coherent and focused activities. Oversee the team’s budget, ensuring all activities are completed within expenditure targets. Stakeholder Engagement & Cultural Evolution: Collaborate with key stakeholders to create and implement business visions and goals, fostering a culture that is more architecture-led, forward-planned, and evidence-based. Present to boards, committees, and other senior management forums to drive the architectural agenda and ensure alignment with broader business strategies. Project & Change Management: Drive the transition towards the “To-Be” roadmap through the Development team and by contributing to the future project portfolio. Balance the need for immediate solutions with the long-term vision, ensuring that all changes are sustainable and support the strategic objectives of the organization. Skills, Knowledge, and Experience: Essential: Proven leadership experience with the ability to build relationships and provide strategic oversight in data management, analysis, and insight activities. Broad knowledge of architectural approaches and experience in developing and demonstrating their value to the business. Strong understanding of all business functions, coupled with an enthusiastic, solutions-focused approach. Excellent people skills, with the ability to influence, persuade, and collaborate effectively across departments. High attention to detail, with strong investigative and analytical skills and a methodical approach to problem-solving. Desirable: Experience in construction / manufacturing / engineering sectors. Proficiency in modeling and graphical representation of architectural domains. Education and Qualifications: Desirable: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field.
